CORRESPONDENTS DINNER CORRESPONDENCE TO TIDE YOU OVER I know, I know... I haven't been posting so much this past week. You know how it is with 168-hour work weeks. Not to mention the White House Correspondents Dinner this weekend. No, I didn't have a ticket, but I did put on a suit and tag along with some friends to the pre-dinner reception, where I stood around in the courtyard at the Hinckley Hilton drinking free G&Ts and trying to avoid stepping on other people's feet. Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson were supposed to be in the crowd, but I didn't see them. I did spy Sam Donaldson, Howard Fineman, Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI) and various other famous-for-DC types, including New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg. Also present was Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley; although I ultimately decided against it, I seriously considered walking up to him, shaking his hand and saying "I love you on The Wire!" I also didn't take any pictures, but in my defense I had a drink in each hand. Until I return later in the week, here is a Google Maps zoom of the S.S. Maheno, shipwrecked on Cathedral Beach, Fraser Island, New Zealand in 1935: ![]() Discuss amongst yourselves.
